History:
In 1892, three acres of land were purchased to build a district hospital. On the 3 rd July, 1865 the new Nepean Cottage Hospital was opened.
In 1926 the name of the hospital changed to Nepean District Hospital and by the 1930’s it became obvious that the hospital was not meeting the community’s needs. Plans for the present Nepean Hospital were started and the building was completed by 1956.
In July 1962, The Governor Phillip Special Hospital was opened. It provided suitable treatment and care for the chronically ill and aged. Services expanded over the next 30 years to provide rehabilitation, x-ray, pathology, hydrotherapy and palliative care.
Today, Governor Phillip is an 80 bed nursing home providing a high level of quality care to their aged and disabled residents. It also provides respite, palliative care services and also has a secured Dementia unit.
Governor Phillip has provided a quality service to our community for over 110 years.
