The Enrolled Nurse Program offers the opportunity to create a great career within the nursing profession. Enrolled Nurses are valued members of our multi-disciplinary teams and are employed in a wide variety of health care settings. On completion of the program, Enrolled Nurses have the opportunity to continue to develop their nursing career with many universities offering advanced standing in the registered nurse program.
About the Program:
Qualification
Certificate IV in Nursing (Enrolled Nurse) Course in NSW.
This is a 12 month, full time employment based program conducted in partnership with TAFE.
The program is divided in two parts:
Theory – An 8 week and 7 week study block conducted at TAFE.
Clinical – in a hospital or facility in Sydney West Area Health Service

The TAFE campus attended for lectures is dependent on the location of the hospital where the Trainee Enrolled Nurse is employed.
Assessment is conducted during the course both at TAFE and in the clinical setting. Failure of any subject at TAFE means that trainees cannot continue with the course. Failure to satisfactorily complete clinical assessment requirements whilst working in the hospital also constitutes a course failure.

Intakes :
Sydney West Area Health Service offers three programs annually. February, April and September.

Recruitments is through the Department of Health website.
The program is advertised in the Sydney Morning Herald, Thursday edition, and local Western Sydney papers. Applicants must meet the following essential criteria on application:
Application Requirements for Future Courses
Currently to be eligible for employment as a Trainee Enrolled Nurse in a NSW public hospital you need the following:-
A current VETAB accredited or Workcover approved first aid certificate, e.g. Red Cross, TAFE or St John's Ambulance. Certificates need to be current and valid at the commencement of your course; and
Evidence of satisfactory completion of the NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) or equivalent within the last three years with English and Maths at one of the following levels:-
English (Advanced)Band 4, 5 or 6
English (Standard)Band 5 or 6
English as a Second Language Band 5 or 6
All HSC Mathematics subjects at PASS level
Year 10 Mathematics Band 5 or 6
Year 10 Mathematics (Advanced) Band 4, 5 or 6
or if without an HSC or the required subjects in the HSC;
Successful completion of the Literacy and/or Numeracy Test developed for entry to the course. This test is conducted by The College of Nursing. Information is available at www.nursing.aust.edu.au.
Applicants may be eligible for exemption from the Literacy and/or Numeracy Tests developed for the Trainee Enrolled Nurse Course if they can provide evidence of an accredited tertiary qualification.

Literacy and Numeracy Tests
Information and bookings for the Literacy and Numeracy Tests is available from The College of Nursing at www.nursing.aust.edu.au or by telephoning (02) 9745 7500. A sample test is also available on The College of Nursing website.
It is important to apply for the Literacy and Numeracy Tests early to avoid any delay in your future application to the Enrolled Nursing Course.
Hours of Work
38 hours per week on rotating shifts during clinical. These shifts can include mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays.
Uniform
The Trainee Enrolled Nurse Uniform is provided by Sydney West Area Health Service. Footwear, watch and textbooks need to be purchased by the participant.
Salary Range
Basic Rate ranges from Salary Range is $514.20 to $558.30 for under 18 and from $606.50 to 665.60 for 18 and over. Shift allowances are paid in addition to these rates.
Childcare
Sydney West Area Health Service offers employer sponsored child care, for school aged children during school holidays. It allows staff to work during the holiday periods and access childcare at an affordable price. This allows staff to take time off at other times of need.
