Auburn Hospital

NSW Premier Morris Iemma has announced Government approval to proceed with the $145 million redevelopment of the Auburn hospital – the fifth major metropolitan hospital project now underway in Sydney.

The $145 million redevelopment will see Auburn Hospital expand its capacity to 184 beds and include community health service facilities as Stage 1 activities. In Stage 2, a new St Joseph’s Hospital will be collocated on the site.

“The new hospital will meet the needs of the local community by providing high-quality general medical, paediatric and emergency services,” Mr Iemma said.

“It will also develop as a centre of excellence for the provision of planned surgery, aged and general rehabilitation.”

Two applications have been lodged with the Department of Planning seeking approvals for the project under Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979:
