Introduction

The Sydney West Area Health Service (SWAHS) is committed to ensuring that the 'users' and potential 'users' of health services are provided with the best possible care and service. To achieve this we have established a number of strategies to encourage consumer participation across Sydney West Area Health Service.

Consumer participation means that people who either directly or indirectly use health services work in partnership with Sydney West Area Health on issues relating to the ‘health focus’ of the population and the distribution of health services.

The term consumer is used for people who use or are potential users of health services, including the family and carers of patients and clients.
