Consumer Participation
Introduction
The Sydney West Area Health Service (SWAHS) is committed to ensuring that the 'users' and potential 'users' of health services are provided with the best possible care and service. To achieve this we have established a number of strategies to encourage consumer participation across Sydney West Area Health Service.
Consumer participation means that people who either directly or indirectly use health services work in partnership with Sydney West Area Health on issues relating to the health focus of the population and the distribution of health services.
A number of opportunities for the community to become involved are available. These include:
- Having consumers on key committees within the health facilities across Western Sydney;
- Being part of our Consumer Health Forum;
- Registering yourself, or a health related group that you are part of, as being willing to participate in consultation processes.
So who are the consumers?
The term consumer is used for people who use or are potential users of health services, including the family and carers of patients and clients.
