Introduction

The Department of Adolescent Medicine at Westmead Hospital opened Australia’s first Adolescent Medical Ward as a centre of excellence in 1983. We provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary health care for young people attending high school (and their families and carers) who present with complex medical and biopsychosocial concerns. Clinical services are provided on an inpatient, outpatient and day stay basis. We are also active in promoting a better understanding of adolescent health issues through research and training activities.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Adolescent Medicine is to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary health care and health promotion for young people so that they can grow and develop to their full potential. This is achieved through clinical practice, advocacy, education and research activities. We believe that effective intervention in childhood and adolescence can prevent morbidity and early mortality in adulthood.

These pages will introduce you to the Department, its staff and its activities. There is also information on how to contact us and how to make appointments.
