The main purpose of forming CRASH early in 2003 was to provide an organisational environment in which a series of good quality, but disparate, research programs could be integrated, managed more effectively, supported and further developed. The formation of CRASH also provided an opportunity to develop new research programs and to have a greater impact on policy, clinical and public health practice and education and training.
The first year of CRASH will be devoted to establishing the organisation, its management and accounting procedures, successfully integrating the research programs, and building CRASH’s organisational profile and networks. The Executive Committee has a broad strategy which will guide decision-making about the most appropriate actions to take in the short-medium term (1-3 years), supported by the Board.
The research program addresses many of the major causes of morbidity and mortality among young people. Although they span the research continuum, most of the projects are strongly oriented toward the “practice” end of the range, being directed more toward improved clinical care and outcomes, better public health practice and enhanced health policy.
Although the research program will constitute the core of CRASH’s work, we will also: engage in education and training in order to disseminate the research findings and develop the profession, consult with other health professionals and with professionals in sectors other than health so we understand their information needs and can assist them to maximise their impact on the health of young people; and, constantly seek to improve our understanding of the needs and concerns of young people and their carers.
The Main Academic campus of CRASH is located at the University of Sydney and the primary clinical campus is situated at Westmead Hospital .
