Heart Failure in Western Sydney
Download Heart Failure in Western Sydney
Congestive heart failure (CHF) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality especially among those aged 65 years and older. It is possible that the decreasing incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD) will also lead to a reduction in CHF incidence, although the apparent looming epidemic of obesity related disease might reverse current (downward) trends in CHD incidence.
This report uses routinely available data (hospital, population and mortality data in the health outcomes information & statistical toolkit (HOIST) data warehouse) to describe current patterns of mortality and morbidity in Western Sydney in order to provide a baseline for monitoring longer-term trends.
