Health Matters in Western Sydney: A brief epidemiologic profile

Download Health Matters in Western Sydney: A brief epidemiologic profile.

Cultural and linguistic diversity are major strengths in Western Sydney communities but also pose challenges to service provision. High levels of socioeconomic disadvantage and adverse lifestyle risk factors contribute to excess mortality and morbidity. This is also reflected in the fact that local residents tend to make relatively greater use of public hospital services than age matched groups in other Areas. The shift in the pattern of health and illness consequent on improvements in life expectancy beyond 80 years is an added challenge. We must add a concern with disability prevention and management to our focus on disease control.
