Our Services
Westmead Hospital is one of the leading institutions for diabetes care in Australia. A range of services are provided, including diabetes clinics, diabetes education, dietetics, podiatry, health promotion activities, and inpatient care. Westmead Hospital has established a system of integrated care with general practitioners and other health care providers in Western Sydney, to provide a continuum of high quality care to people with diabetes. To give our patients the earliest opportunity of using new agents in the treatment of diabetes, we are also active in the area of clinical research, being involved in the trial of new drugs and devices for diabetes care.
DIABETES CLINICS
The Westmead Hospital diabetes clinics provide specialist medical care for people with diabetes. In particular, the focus is on optimising diabetes care, and screening for, and treating complications of diabetes. Doctors in the clinic work closely with diabetes educators, dieticians, and podiatrists. We aim to maintain a close liaison with patients' general practitioners. The Thursday clinic also incorporates the diabetes in pregnancy and the renal diabetes clinics, for patients requiring these additional services. Products and information may be obtained from the Diabetes Australia stall at the Thursday clinic. We also hold a clinic on Wednesday afternoon/evening which caters for young adults with insulin dependent diabetes.
