Can anyone use the library?

The Blacktown-Mt Druitt Clinical Library Service provides information services and resources in support of the educational, research, and clinical programs of the staff of Blacktown and Mt Druitt Hospitals. However, as we are part of the SWAHS all staff members of SWAHS are eligible to borrow. Students are welcome to use the library's collection in house but are not allowed to borrow.

 

How do I join the library?

A registration form needs to be completed and taken into either Blacktown or Mt Druitt library where a staff member will register you as a borrower.

 

How many books can I check out?

You may check out 10 books.

 

How long can a book be borrowed?

Books in the BMDH circulating collection may be checked out for a period of three weeks. Other libraries in the AHS have different loan period and rules so please check these when borrowing books from these collections.

 

Can books be renewed?

Renewals may be made by telephone, online or visiting the library.

 

Does the library charge late fines?

The BMDH Clinical Library Service does not charge fines, however we ask patrons to return books on time as others may be waiting for the same item’s return. When books are overdue you will receive an overdue notice, please either return books to Blacktown or Mt Druitt Library or ring a library staff member to request an extension of the loan.

 

Can I borrow books from Westmead or Nepean Library?

Yes your membership entitles you to borrow from other libraries in the area however it is your responsibility to ensure that you abide by the rules of the lending library in question. For example, Westmead and Nepean Libraries have a two week loan period and fines of $1 per day are charged if you exceed this stipulated period.

 

Can I get a copy of an article or a book that the library does not own?

Yes, you will need to fill out a request form located at the Circulation Desk or ask a library staff member.

 

Do I have to pay for an article or a book loan?

In most cases journal articles and books will be supplied to you free of charge. There are instances when we cannot supply your request through our regular free suppliers, in these rare instances you will be notified and asked if you want to proceed with the request. If you do we will advise you of the charge that will be incurred and ask you to provide us with a signed request form with your direct supervisor’s signature and the cost code that the article should be charged to.

Do the copy machines accept coins or copy cards?

The libraries each have a photocopy machine but do not have copy cards.  These photocopiers accept copy codes provided by departments. If you are authorized to copy on behalf of your department, please ask your supervisor or the Library Manager for the designated PIN number that may be used.  For all nonauthorised photocopying in the libraries you will need to pay one of the library staff members.

 

Please make sure you bring enough change with you as library staff are not permitted to provide change.

 

How much are photocopies?

Photocopies are 10 cents per page.

 

Will library staff photocopy materials for me?

The library staff will not photocopy on your behalf.

 

What is my username and password for the CIAP databases?

Ring either Blacktown or Mt Druitt library and we will give you the password. You may also visit either library and speak to a member of staff.

 

How do I order a literature search?

Call 9881 8364 or 9881 8369 and ask to speak with a librarian. 

 

How do I recommend titles for the collection?

Forms for recommended purchases are available at the Circulation Desk and may be completed by any library user.  All recommendations are evaluated by the Library Manager and selected according to their relevance to the library's mission, collection development policy and budgetary considerations.  All requesters receive a response.

 

Does the library accept gifts?

The library accepts gifts, but reserves the right to accept the donation based upon relevancy and usefulness to the collection, completeness of the volume or set, and currency of the information.  The library will handle the materials by:
