BMDH Clinical Library

Blacktown Mt Druitt Hospital Clinical Library Service

Services

Membership

Who can borrow?

Only the staff of BMDH/SWAHS are eligible to borrow from the library. Staff wishing to become a member need to complete a registration form.

BMDH/SWAHS identification needs to be sighted before a borrower can be registered. Students completing components of their tertiary studies and medical observers within BMDH/SWAHS are welcome to use the library but are not permitted to borrow.

Registered borrowers will be issued with a library membership number that may be used when borrowing from any library within SWAHS.  This number will be put on the back of your staff ID card and must be presented whenever borrowing.

Click here to obtain a registration form. Please take the completed form and your staff ID with you to either the Blacktown or Mt Druitt library to obtain a borrower membership number.

Computers/Internet

There are PCs available in both libraries where users can access the online library catalogue, the Internet and search for information using CIAP (Clinical Information Access Programme).

Advance bookings are recommended and you may book a 30-minute time slot by telephoning the library.  (Blacktown Ext.48231, Mt Druitt Ext.41637)

Interlibrary Loans

Copies of articles from journals and journal issues not held by the library can be obtained from other libraries by document delivery. On most occasions these articles are supplied for free. However, there are times when a fee is charged for supply. The minimum charge is $18 per article. You will be contacted prior to the request being sent if payment is required.

To request an article you should complete a journal article request form (one per article) and sign the copyright declaration, as this is a legal requirement.

If you require an article urgently please discuss your situation with a library staff member.

Books may also be obtained via interlibrary loan.

Please consult with a library staff member if you wish to use this service.

Acquisitions

In order to comply with WSAHS policies on Purchasing Library materials, all books, journals, videos etc must be purchased through the Library and not directly through Purchasing. This ensures that all such material is recorded on the WSAHS Library catalogue and thus provides a common record of items held by the Libraries/Departments for stocktaking/auditing purposes.

All users of the BMDH Clinical Library Service are encouraged and welcome to make suggestions for items for purchase. Items are purchased if they are in line with the Collection Development Policy and there are sufficient funds available.

Departmental items, including those purchased from departmental funds, must also be purchased through the Library. Please contact:
