The Growth and Development Clinic

The Growth and Development Clinic follows the development of children who required neo-natal intensive care and were very premature, or very sick, at birth.

The Growth and Development Clinic offers:

We aim to work closely with you as parents, to enable you to meet your child's needs.

By following the progress of the babies, we can also gain information that can be used to help future families who need the services offered by Neonatal Intensive Care.

We check each child's progress at their corrected ages of 4, 8 and 12 months when they are developing most rapidly.  We then see them at the ages of 3, 5 and 8 years until they are well established at school.

The  Growth and Development Team

Developmental Paediatrician:  Looks at the growth and general health of your child.

Psychologist:  Assesses the child's general development including learning ability and behaviour.

Occupational Therapist:  Assesses the child's ability to learn while playing with people and toys and looks at such skills as fine-motor co-ordination and attention.

Physiotherapist:   Checks on the development of rolling, sitting, crawling and walking and monitors quality of posture, balance and movement.

Speech Therapist:  Checks the development of eating/drinking and communication skills.

Co-ordinator:    Makes and maintains contact with parents and attends to the overall administration of the clinic. The co-ordinator is your main contact person for general enquiries.
