Neurosurgery Registrar - Unaccredited
Nepean Hospital
The post would suit candidates wishing to pursue a neuro-surgical career or gain experience as part of general or other surgical specialty training. The successful candidates will work closely with the three neuro-surgical specialists in both theatre and outpatients. Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital and a major trauma centre serving a local population of over 300,000. The Department deals with a full range of neuro-surgical activities and has undergone a major financial enhancement upgrading services and theatre equipment. There is ready access to all forms of neuro-imaging including MRI and frameless sterotaxy. The registrars will be responsible for receiving calls on acute referrals from the Emergency Department and within the hospital in addition to calls from neighbouring hospitals and general practitioners. The Registrars will also have responsibility for supervision and teaching of Interns / RMO’s and attached medical students.
There is weekly neuroscience meeting and the Registrars would also be encouraged to attend similar meetings at other neighbouring units within Sydney.
It is anticipated that some time would be available for research purposes.
Essential Criteria:
- Eligible for registration with NSW Medical Board
- Minimum of two (2) years postgraduate experience
- Previous neurosurgical experience
Desirable Criteria:
- FRACS primary or equivalent
