Drug and Alcohol is a busy department with consultants with clinical privileges for both Drug and Alcohol and Gastroenterology and a strong academic interest.
Drug and Alcohol Service is an area wide service that has undergone significant expansion, including dedicated in and outpatient detoxification units, methadone and other Opioid Treatment Services, and a consultation-liaison service. The Service is located both at Westmead and Cumberland hospitals, with outreach to Auburn and Blacktown. There are strong links with the University of Sydney; hence involvement in research projects is actively encouraged.
The successful applicant will work in a multi-disciplinary team to provide the in and outpatient care of patients with drug and alcohol dependencies. Including cannabis programs, alcohol clinics, hepatitis C treatment, opiate substitution therapy, drugs in Pregnancy, dual diagnosis clinics, conjoint addiction/ pain clinics, in patient care and consult liaison. Applicants wishing to job share or work on a part-time basis will be considered. For candidates preparing for FRACP written or clinical exam participation in both bedside and classroom teaching is available.
Essential Criteria:
- Medical registration with the NSW Medical Board
- Demonstrated commitment to relevant Advanced Training program
- A commitment to work in a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise
- Commitment to quality improvement and clinical practice improvement
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience in medical, addiction medicine and psychiatry
