Interventional Cardiology Fellow
Westmead Hospital
This position provides clinical in-patient services to the patients in Eastern and Central Clusters of the Cardiovascular Network as directed by the Director of Cardiology at Westmead Hospital and the Stream Director of Cardiac Services.
Major responsibilities:
- Be on call for primary angioplasty and urgent cardiology procedures after hours.
- Needs to reside within 30-minute driving distance of Westmead Hospital.
- Assist Cardiologist in performing primary angioplasty.
- Collect and analyse data regarding primary angioplasty patients.
- Do rounds of Cardiology wards and Emergency Department on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays and ADOs, if on-call
- Perform procedures during sessions allocated in the lab roster.
- Fill in for lab procedures (coronary angiograms, electrophysiological studies, transthoracic echocardiograms, transoesophageal echocardiography, cardioversion) when operators are on leave
- Do rounds of Cardiology wards of Mt Druitt hospital on weekdays with the resident medical staff. These generally take half a day on each day.
- Participation in research and clinical quality assessment and improvement projects.
- Present when required at departmental and hospital meetings
Essential Criteria:
- FRACP Part 1 or equivalent
- Completion of at least 2 years of Advanced Training in Cardiology
- Demonstrated ability for research
- Distinguished academic record
- Good clinical training in a well regarded, internationally competitive, major teaching hospital
- Ability to perform coronary angiograms, electrophysiological studies and transthoracic echocardiograms unsupervised
- Able to participate fully in invasive cardiology for the full duration of their employment
- Excellent communication skills in English
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience in interventional cardiology including stenting and radiofrequency ablation
- Experience in transoesophageal echocardiograms
- Completion of FRACP
Remuneration:
For those who have attained FRACP, remuneration will be at the level of Postgraduate Fellow, in accordance with the Senior Medical Practitioners Award.
For those who have not yet attained FRACP, remuneration will be as Senior Registrar, in accordance with the Public Hospital (Medical Officers) Award.
