This SWAHS Graduate Certificate in Specialty Nursing Course is an excellent opportunity for registered nurses to advance their specialty nursing practice. Graduates of the course will be able to function as beginning specialist nurses who are dynamic, creative and innovative clinical leaders.
Features of the Course :
- The course utilises learning opportunities that occur in the workplace, ensuring that the central focus is practice based
- Competency development is a significant component of the course
- The core subject uses clinical leadership, evidence based practice and clinical teaching to develop and encourage critical reflection, high level reasoning, analysis and decision making in the clinical environment
- Each course is facilitated by qualified nurse educators
- The course can be tailored to meet your work, family and personal commitments through full time or part time study.
Length of the Course :
- The course is conducted over one-year full time or two years part time
Course Subjects :
There are four subjects that make up the requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Specialty Nursing course. This includes the two core subject Contemporary Approaches to Nursing Practice 1 & 2, and two subjects from one of the following specialties: Acute Care, Cancer, Cardiac, Child & Family Health, Emergency, Intensive Care, Perioperative, Renal, Rehabilitation, Surgical or Trauma.
The course has been accredited by the Higher Education Board.
Mode of Study :
The course offers a combination of classroom attendance, self-directed learning and distance education over two semesters. Study days are conducted on site in different facilities in Sydney West Area Health Service with the exception of the Perioperative course which is conducted by distance education only.
Entry Requirements
All applicants are required to:
- hold a current Authority to Practice with the Nurses’ Registration Board, NSW
- have a minimum of one year’s post-graduate experience
- be currently employed in an appropriate clinical setting for specialty experience.
Course Fees
The cost of the course for 2007 is $1,250 for SWAHS employees and $1,500 for other applicants. A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required on acceptance of a place in the course.
