The Nepean Hospital is a tertiary referral hospital which serves the local government areas of Penrith, Hawkesbury and the Blue Mountains. Nepean Hospital is located in Penrith, an attractive area only 50 km west of Sydney on the M4 motorway at the foot of the Blue Mountains.
Penrith is a modern university city with a vibrant nightlife, excellent shopping facilities and good schools. Nepean Hospital is close to both Penrith Lakes and the Nepean River accommodating water sports and recreational activities. The Penrith area offers affordable housing and the opportunity for a relaxed lifestyle.
Nepean Hospital is an Acute Teaching Hospital & Regional Trauma Centre
Our services include:
- Medicine: general medicine, aged care, stroke unit, cancer care, palliative care, rehabilitation, renal, neurology, cardiology and coronary care, cardiac catheter laboratory, oncology/haematology, drug and alcohol, nuclear medicine, ambulatory care, chest clinic, respiratory, outpatient services, bone marrow transplants and diabetes services.
- Surgery: general surgery, orthopaedics, plastics, vascular, ophthalmic, thoracic surgery, neuro surgery, urology, trauma, ear, nose and throat and facio-maxillary.
- Critical Care: emergency, intensive care, high dependency, operating theatres, anaesthetics, radiology, endoscopy, perioperative, recovery and pain service and day surgery (exploring paediatric day surgery).
- Women And Children’s Health: maternity, antenatal, postnatal, neonatal intensive care, paediatrics, gynaecology and oncology, growth and development, high risk pregnancy and genetics.
- Community and Allied Health: outreach, primary health, school screening, palliative care, continence, health promotion and early childhood.
- Mental Health: inpatient and community care.

The proposed commencement months are January, April and July 2008 (dates to be advised).

How to get there:
- By car from Sydney - travel along the M4 Expressway to Penrith, turn off at Northern Road and follow the signs to Nepean Hospital
- By train from Sydney - travel from Central Railway Station to Kingswood Railway Station and approximately 5-minute walk to the hospital.
- Public timetables and fares are available via the Transport Infoline website.
Program structure:
The 12-month New Graduate Program consists of rotations through four areas including medical, surgical and specialty areas.
The specialty areas may include emergency, intensive c are, cardiology, oncology, operating theatres, neonatal, maternity and children's health and mental health .
Complex support is provided by Nurse Educators, Clinical Educators, Preceptors and Registered Nurses. Extensive orientation including clinical skills facilitation , a program of study days plus unit based in-service education programs are provided.
There is a dedicated First Year Graduate Nurse Coordinator to assist in the smooth transition from university to clinical practice.
