Blacktown/Mt Druitt Health (BMDH)
BMDH is a unit of the Sydney West Area Health Service. Although there are two inpatient campuses, it operates under one administration, under the umbrella of Blacktown/Mt. Druitt Health. Clinical Services are distributed across both campuses, allowing the growth of expertise within specialties. The two facilities are situated 11 kilometres apart.
Blacktown Campus
Blacktown Hospital is located 48 kms from Sydney Central Business District (CBD). A new hospital was opened in April 2000 and the hospital is located within the business district of Blacktown. There are beautiful parks and reserves such as the Nurrangingy Reserve, Featherdale Wildlife Park, and Prospect Reservoir offering beautiful grounds and picnic and barbeque areas. Nearby is a ten pin bowling alley and a skating rink which are within walking distance. Staff have access to childcare and vacational care facilities within the grounds of the hospital.
Mt Druitt Campus
Mt. Druitt Hospital is situated in an attractive leafy, bushland setting close to transport. There is a large shopping setting nearby and public amenities. It has local attractions including Eastern Creek Raceway, and the Doonside Olympic Stadium as well as being near to the local attractions mentioned above.

Operating suites are operational in both facilities and general surgical procedures performed totalled 9194 cases, Orthopaedic surgery totalled 1267 cases, and Gynaecological procedures –1446 cases in 2004.
Our busy Delivery suite had 2,503 deliveries which resulted in 2,532 babies, Special Care Nursery took cared for a total of 665 babies in 2004.
The Nursing Resource Center manages the casual pool and permanent casual pool. Casuals are very much a part of the team and are integrated into the work force. They attend orientation days and paid staff development days.
We offer work experience opportunities for school and TAFE students that will facilitate and maximise learning experiences.

Nursing Highlights:
Blacktown/Mt. Druitt Health is a clinical leader in health. Achievements include:
- Intensive Care Unit utilising a Clinical Information System that is legible, multi access, up to the minute patient recording
- Emergency Department trialled a Wireless Communication Tool that enables staff to be in contact throughout the department without stopping to access a phone
- The Acute Stroke Unit provides a critical mass of resources to provide critical care to stroke victims in the acute phase
- Patient Flow Clinical Nurse works effectively, improving discharge times in wards, allowing admissions from Emergency thus improving public access to Emergency Departments
- REAT (Rapid Emergency Assess Team) enables a Nurse to utilise advanced clinical guidelines to assess patients and initiate treatment
- EATU (Emergency Admissions Transit Unit) - Nurse assessment of elderly patients presenting to Emergency, to ensure resources required to maintain independence in the home is assured.

Mt. Druitt Hospital is serviced by Rowes buses from Mt. Druitt railway station, or take a 15-minute walk. If travelling by private transport, take the Wallgrove Road exit off the M4 or the Great Western Highway. Ample parking at a cost of $4.00.
Blacktown Hospital is serviced by Busways & WestBus buses from Blacktown railway station, or take a 10 minute walk. If travelling by private transport, take the Prospect Highway exit off the M4 or the Great Western Highway. Parking is available at a cost of $4.00.
A free shuttle bus service runs between the two facilities.
