Lottie Stewart Hospital is an activity of the Wesley Mission and also a unit of the Sydney West Area Health Service. There are 82 Commonwealth funded beds comprising of 26 aged care beds, Bevington unit, 16 psycho-geriatric beds, Stewart Lodge, 15 aged care and 8 respite beds in Terry Brasher Lodge and 15 permanent & 2 respite beds in the Huntington’s Unit. In addition to the Commonwealth funded beds there are 10 Low Care dementia beds in the CADE Unit. The facility operates as a Residential Aged Care Facility (Nursing Home).
Nursing Services:
Each unit has a Nursing Unit Manager and a Registered Nurse is rostered on each shift in each unit. Staffing levels consist of Enrolled Nurses, Assistants In Nursing and Trainee Enrolled Nurses. Staffing levels are well complemented by an extensive casual pool and the facility has not used agency nursing staff for several years.
Staff Benefits:
Orientation is provided to all staff and a full time educator is employed to provide ongoing education to all staff. The hospital is also a base hospital for trainee enrolled nurses. Meals are available for staff to purchase (at a nominal fee) which are cooked on site. Nursing staff salary rates are paid in accordance with the Public Health System Nurses & Midwives (State) Award and in addition are offered salary packaging up to $9,094.00. Staff are encouraged to provide Nursing Unit Managers with roster requests prior to publishing and all attempts are made to meet these requests where possible such as staff attending courses, university or travel, etc.
Nursing Highlights:
This facility is accredited under both the Commonwealth Aged Care Standards Agency as well as the Australian Council of Healthcare Standards and takes part in the Numerical Profile with pleasing results throughout the Hospital.
Transport and Parking:
There is ample free well-lighted on-site parking and access is from Stewart Street. Security officers are employed to patrol and escort staff at night to and from the car park
