‘I never realised nursing could be so diverse when I first started.’
Yervette Jones is a Nursing Unit Manager at Westmead Hospital. Yervette
completed the HSC, then studied nursing at the University of Western Sydney,
Nepean Campus. After graduating from university, she completed some agency
based nursing before coming to work at Sydney West Area Health Service. Now,
at the age of 30, Yervette manages 30 staff in the radiology section of the
hospital.
The location of the Sydney West Area Health Service (SWAHS) has an enormous amount to offer! It has great shopping opportunities and boasts an array of fine restaurants, hotels, cinemas and theatres, all of which complement a vibrant and dynamic cultural life. Sporting facilities are excellent with many state of the art venues built for the Olympics. In addition, the area’s rich and varied history makes it one of Australia ’s most important heritage centres. It historical significance includes the early Australian Government settlement to the beauty of the Blue Mountains, which opened the way to the Western Plains for further exploration and settlement.
The Area has much to offer the nurse of the future. Opportunities abound for a wide variety of experience and specialties, enhanced career development, proactive ongoing education, world class nursing research and linkages through postgraduate programs to the University of Western Sydney and the University of Technology, Sydney .
