NURSING WORK EXPERIENCE
Yes ~ nursing is a brilliant career !
Few other professions offer you the career opportunities that nursing does. It has variety, choice and endless challenges. Employment prospects are excellent with attractive rates of pay and flexible work hours..
Once you have obtained your qualifications as either a Registered or Enrolled Nurse, you can choose to work in any number of speciality areas. Nurses are key players in all areas of health care ~ and remember, HealthCare is not confined solely to hospitals. We are involved in everything from mental health to community outreach services, drug and alcohol counselling, specialised services such as air retrieval and Careflight, intensive care, surgery and rehabilitation, neuro-science and paediatrics, education, management and even nursing in the outback. The choice is enormous.
Nursing qualifications can also be your passport to the world!
Australian nurses are in very high demand overseas.
HOW TO ORGANISE YOUR WORK EXPERIENCE PLACEMENT
- Discuss possible work experience options with your careers adviser. They should be able to provide you with a nursing careers package published by the Department of Health. If they cannot offer you a package please feel free to contact Nurse Promotion & Marketing (02) 9845 8028 and we will forward you one by mail.
- Your careers adviser will provide you with a Student Placement Record and Employers guide to workplace learning forms, that support your application for work experience. These forms are the official school approval and are essential to your application.
- Write to one of the hospitals listed below and make sure you state that you are requesting nursing work experience and WHY?. Provide your name, address, school and the name of your careers adviser.
- The earlier you apply the better chance you have of securing a placement. We suggest that you apply as soon as you are given the dates, hopefully at either the beginning or end of the school year.
- Once your application is received the hospital will then write to you to confirm details of your placement. If you do not hear within six weeks please telephone the contact person for that hospital. • Remember, you must be in at least Year 10 to undertake the program.
If you have any difficulties in contacting our hospitals or community health centres or if you would like additional information about nursing, please contact the Nurse Marketing and Promotion Office on 9845 8028
