Westmead Hospital is an 820 bed Tertiary Referral Hospital and it is renowned worldwide for research through the Millennium Research Centre.
The hospital is located 30 kilometres from the centre of Sydney, which is easily accessible by Train, Rivercat (ferry), Bus and Motorways. The location of the Westmead Health Service has an enormous amount to offer. It has great shopping opportunities and boasts an array of fine restaurants, hotels, cinemas and theatres, all of which complement a vibrant and dynamic cultural life. In addition, the area’s rich and varied history makes it one of Australia ’s most important heritage centres.
The Westmead Nursing Service has much to offer nurses now and in the future. Opportunities are plentiful. There are a wide variety of experiences and specialties to work in to enhanced career development and growth. Proactive and ongoing education is provided to all nursing staff. Nursing research and linkages through postgraduate programs to the University of Western Sydney and the University of Technology, Sydney is available. Westmead also offers a number of specialisation programs at Masters level in collaboration with the University of Western Sydney

Over 2000 full time, part time and casual Registered and Enrolled Nurses provide these services.
Included in the workforce are Clinical Nurse Educators, Nurse Educators, Clinical Nurse Consultants, Clinical Nurse Specialists and Senior and Unit Managers to support the clinical areas. After hours and weekend shifts are supported by Clinical Nurse Educators and a Senior Nurse Manager. Westmead has employed permanent staff for night shifts.
