Blacktown Hospital Pastoral Care Information
Pastoral care offers you support and an opportunity to explore your
emotional and spiritual concerns
Members of the Pastoral Care Team are available to listen to you and
be with you.
In the Spirit of God, we in Pastoral Care offer a supportive presence
to people in times of uncertainty and difficulty. Our aim is to encourage
patients, their significant others, and staff to express their spiritual
and emotional needs, respecting the dignity, values, and beliefs of
each person.
Sensitive to the dignity of all persons, the care we offer is respectful
of the unique integrity of each person and their personal religious
or philosophical beliefs. Accordingly, in a spirit of acceptance, we
come with time to listen, believing that each person's own belief system
enables them to grow in spiritual awareness.
We recognise that people admitted to hospital are frequently in a crisis
situation.
We believe that God reveals Himself in the longings and aspirations
of the human heart on such occasions. Therefore, we commit ourselves
to being aware of this and to enabling the person to understand the
experience, and to move on with greater peace, purpose and wholeness.Religious
needs
Representatives from most faith traditions and denominations are available
to visit and may be contacted through the Pastoral Care Staff or the
ward staff (Nurse, Ward Clerk, etc.)
Chapel
The Chapel is located on Level Three near the front doors, opposite
security.
The Chapel is open from 8am to 9pm for prayer and reflection.
Regular services are conducted in the Chapel. Please ask the Staff
for service and Mass times.
Footprints in the sand
One day I had a dream, I dreamt I was walking along a beach with God
and across the sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene I noticed
two sets of footprints in the sand, one belonging to me, the other to
God.
When the last scene of my life flashed before us, I looked back at the
footprints in the sand. I noticed that at times along the path of life
there was only one set of footprints. I also noticed that it happened
at the lowest and saddest points of my life.
This really bothered me and I questioned God about it. "God, You
said that once I decided to follow you, you would walk with me all the
way, but I noticed that, during the most troublesome times of my life
there is Only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why, in
times when I needed you most, you would leave me.
God replied "My Precious, precious child. I love you and I would
never, never leave. When you see only one set of footprints… it
was then that I was carrying you.
Prayer for Today
Everyday I need you, Lord, but this day specially.
I need some extra strength to face whatever is to be…
This day more than any other day I need to feel You near me – to
strengthen my courage and overcome my fear.
By myself I cannot meet the challenge of the hour. There are times when
people need a higher Power – to help them endure what is to be.
And so, Dear Lord, I pray, hold onto my trembling hand and be with me
today. AMEN
