Auburn Health Services Planning
A new era… Advancing health care at Auburn
Auburn is about to enter a new era in the delivery of quality health care.
Sydney West Area Health Service is reviewing health services in Auburn as part of our overall capital planning.
New clinical networks, technologies and equipment give us many opportunities to advance the health services and facilities available.
We have now embarked on a program of community and expert consultation to work out the best way to do this.
What is happening?
We are beginning work to develop an Auburn Health Services Plan that will complement service planning for the Area Health Service as a whole.
The goal is to ensure that Auburn residents have access to quality health services that will best meet their needs now, and into the future.
The planning process will cover health services provided at St Josephs and Auburn hospitals as well as community-based health services. It will take into account networking of health services within the Area Health Service as well as local issues.
Networking recognises that having safe, high quality health services means providing services at the facility that is best equipped and resourced to meet those needs.
How will the planning process be managed?
The planning process is being overseen by a Steering Committee chaired jointly by the Area Health Service Chief Executive, Associate Professor Steven Boyages, and the NSW Health Deputy Director General – Health System Support, Robert McGregor AM.
The Steering Committee has two sub-committees:
- a Working Group chaired by Dr Michael Datyner, Network Co-Chair, Aged
Care and Chronic and Complex Medicine; and
- a Community Reference Group chaired by Abd Malak AM, Executive Sponsor Integrated Health Services, to oversee and guide consultation with members of the local community.
Key members of the Auburn community are represented on the Community Reference Group. In addition, consumer representatives are included on the Steering Committee. The three committees will work closely together to develop the Plan.
How will the community be kept informed of planning decisions?
The Community Reference Group will guide the process of informing the community.
The wider community will be engaged during the course of the planning process through various channels including public meetings, regular updates in the media and meetings with key groups.
We will consult directly with specific groups of people including those from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
A public meeting will be held 6-8pm on Monday, 14 th February 2005 at Lidcombe Community Centre to provide information and a forum for community discussion. The centre is located in Bridge Street, Lidcombe. For inquiries about this meeting contact Gordana Kostadinovska on phone (02) 9563 9531.
What has been decided so far?
We are starting this planning process to involve the community and clinical experts before any decisions are made.
