Smoke Free Workplace
Your health is our primary concern
Progression of smoke free workplace policy
As of 1st November 2006 all SWAHS facilities will be smoke free. Designated smoking areas will be removed and staff, patients and visitors will be asked not to smoke inside or on the grounds of any SWAHS facility.
The Area Health Service has published a Smoke Free Workplace Policy that outlines the responsibilities of all staff under the policy.
The Smoke Free Workplace Policy is aimed at improving the health of staff and the community by reducing the smoking related health risks for people in their workplace.
Sydney West Area Health Service is committed to providing a clean, safe environment for our staff, contractors, patients and visitors.
As a provider of health services, Sydney West Area Health Service must be seen to exhibit a leadership role in the promotion of better health for the whole community.
Whilst the AHS acknowledges that for people that smoke, the policy may be difficult to comply with, we are offering limited free Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) program for staff and patients.
The role of hospital security staff has been extended to include the authority to enforce the Area’s non-smoking policy on hospital grounds. Following 1st November 2006, hospital security staff are authorised to inform staff, patients or visitors who are smoking to move off the premises.
On campuses where exemptions for patients, clients and residents have been granted, staff are not permitted to smoke in designated smoking areas.
I ask for your support in the implementation of the smoke free workplace policy that will see a healthier and cleaner workplace for us all to enjoy.
