B5a
cares for patients with all types of respiratory conditions, for example:
Asthma, chronic airways limitation, cystic fibrosis, pneumonia, lung cancers, pulmonary embolism, pleural effusion, tuberculosis, respiratory failure, pulmonary fibrosis, pneumothorax, empyema, mesothelioma and tracheostomies.
B5a also cares for obstructive sleep apnoea patients while they undergo therapy titrations.
Some of the investigations and procedures that respiratory patients may experience as an inpatient include:
- venous dopplers
- ventilation perfusion scan (VQ)
- spiral CT (computed tomography) scan
- chest CT scan
- chest X-ray (CXR)
- mantoux test
- induced sputum sampling
- overnight oximetry
- pleural biopsy
- pleural tap
- insertion of intercostal catheter
- pleurodesis
- bronchoscopy
- laser ablation of tumors ± stenting
- spirometry
- peak flow measurement
