Sleep Disorders Laboratory
The Sleep Disorders Laboratory at Westmead Hospital provides a service designed to assess and manage patients with a variety of sleep and respiratory disorders.
Tests
The Sleep Disorders Laboratory routinely provides the following sevices:
- Diagnostic sleep study
- Titration sleep study
- Follow-up sleep study
- Overnight oximetry study
- Multiple sleep latency test (MSLT)
- Non-invasive ventilation service for in-patients
Clinics
The Sleep Disorders Laboratory conducts both CPAP and respiratory failure clinics for outpatients.
Reports
Reports are normally forwarded to referring Sleep and Respiratory Physicians within 2 weeks.
Charges
Medicare registered patients are bulk-billed and do not incur any out-of-pocket expenses.
Overseas visitors are required to pay a fee, which varies according to the type of test undertaken.
Bookings
Patients attending the laboratory require a referral from their General Practitioner to one of the attending Sleep and Respiratory Physicians. The referral form is available for down-loading. The specialist will then refer the patient to the sleep laboratory, if appropriate. The Sleep Disorders Laboratory will contact the patient via letter or telephone when a sleep study time is available. Waiting times for sleep studies vary depending on the degree of urgency.
Sleep and Respiratory Physicians:
Referrals from GP’s should be directed to one of these physicians.
The patient is required to book an appointment with the specialist’s
secretary.
