About the Program
The Penrith community will benefit from an $80 million redevelopment
of Nepean Hospital, which will deliver extra beds, more operating theatres
and enhanced critical care services.
The project is currently in the planning phase with a Project Definition Plan expected to be completed by September 2008. This plan will define the facilities required to deliver health care services on the Nepean Hospital campus.
Early works to enhance the Nepean Hospital campus are already underway, including final planning for the new Pathways Home and Allied Health initiative. Building works are expected to commence on this in October 2007.
The major redevelopment will also include a review of the local health care services plans to ensure that services are being provided in the most effective way, and that they are able to meet projected future demand.
Current planning indicates that the Nepean Hospital redevelopment will provide:
- More inpatient beds and operating theatres
- Expanded critical care services
- Enhancements for some clinical support and nonclinical support services.
The redevelopment is likely to include a mixture of new, purpose-built extensions to the existing hospital buildings, and some internal refurbishment to accommodate expanded services.
During the redevelopment, it will be 'business as usual' at Nepean Hospital. The aim is for no loss of services during the reconstruction, although there may be temporary changes to some services from time to time, to allow for essential building work.
